The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona revives La Merope, an opera by the Barcelona-born composer Domènec Terradellas, a key figure of the 18th century. Trained in Naples with Francesco Durante, Terradellas combined sacred music with operatic drama, leaving his mark on the transition from Baroque to Classicism. His life ended tragically in Rome at the age of 38, but his legacy resurges in a production that reclaims his genius and place in the history of opera. We now have the opportunity to experience this in a concert version conducted by Francesco Corti.
