    Handel's Messiah Palau de la Música Catalana

    With the Messiah, Handel moved away from his other oratorios, which were of a clear Italian influence, to embrace ancient passions and German cantatas. Composed in London in 1741 in just three weeks, the Messiah has traditionally been linked with Christmas, although the oratorio really runs through the life of Jesus. This month of December, the Palau de la Música Catalana will be the wonderful setting of this magnificent work, by the Vespres d'Arnadí and Xavier Puig.

Napoleon, Flower Festival, Klipp Klapp, The Emperor Waltz and Champagne. The most famous waltz of all will also be in the repertoire: The Beautiful Blue Danube. So too will the Radetzky march which usually draws the evening to a close to the thunderous applause of the public.     The Gran Teatre del Liceu is one of Barcelona's iconic venues and among the world's most spectacular opera houses. It begins the new season with an ambitious series of performances. The season will feature major works such as La forza del destino, Madama Butterfly, La Traviata and Lohengrin. The theatre will also be hosting dance performances featuring Afanador performed by the Spanish National Ballet and Hamer by Alexander Ekman performed by GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. There will also be concert performances of works by Debussy, Mahler and Monteverdi.
