A colour palette brimming with life
The Jardins de Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer provide a stunning floral display. You'll find flower beds planted with tulips, hyacinths and daffodils, and, at the top of the garden, more than thirty ponds planted with aquatic vegetation. They make up one of Barcelona's most stunning shows of plants and flowers that thrive in water.
The gardens stand on a slope and the water flows down small cascades into the different ponds on both sides of a flight of stone steps. In spring, they are transformed into a spectacular explosion of colour brimming with flowers: water lilies, arum lilies, Indian lotus flowers...
This broad colour palette, together with the murmur of the water as it flows from pont to pond, creates a balanced and harmonious atmosphere that reflects the ecological management of the site.
The water stays crystal clear because no chemical products are used in the upkeep of the gardens. Purifying plants and creatures that are useful for recycling organic materials are also used. The gardens also provide a habitat and refuge for a whole host of insects, like dragonflies and blue emperors, which control the mosquito population, and amphibians, like tree frogs and the Iberian green frog, which, on peaceful evenings, remind us of the importance of natural spaces in the city, where, beyond the beauty of nature, we can see and enjoy the benefits of a small ecosystem like this one.
