"In the Troubled Air..." Image, emotion, utopia - CCCBBarcelona Art Season, Exhibitions
05/08/2025 - 09/28/2025
The exhibition "In the Troubled Air"... Image, emotion, utopia, curated by Georges Didi-Huberman, explores the political anthropology of emotion from a poetic and philosophical perspective. Taking Federico García Lorca's concept of duende as a starting point, the exhibition vindicates the utopian and emancipatory power of emotions, understood as forces capable of provoking collective and transformative upheavals.
Didi-Huberman draws on texts by Lorca such as the Romance de la luna, luna and the lecture Juego y teoría del duende, to propose a reflection on how certain gestures, images or sounds can generate an emotional excess that affects not only the individual, but the community as a whole. El cante jondo, for example, is portrayed as a manifestation of that primitive force connecting the singer to a deep power, rending the voice and stirring the air and the soul of the listener.
The exhibition includes works by artists such as Francisco de Goya, Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Víctor Erice, Henri Michaux, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Tatiana Trouvé, Baruch Spinoza, Unica Zürn, Corinne Mercadier, Juli González, and Harun Farocki, among others, grouped into constellations of meaning within a montage that establishes a dialogue and prompts a sensory and reflective experience.
